What is mobility and how do you improve it?
What is mobility and how do you improve it? Mobility is about moving the body. It is the size of the movements that you can make, in a safe way, with your joints. These movements are limited by the surrounding tissues such as; tendons, muscles and ligaments. Optimal mobility is moving without limitations, with optimal strength, coordination and balance. The better your mobility, the further you can move your bones.
Stability
Stability is about maintaining the correct position (certain body parts, depending on the form of movement) over a movement. This requires good cooperation between all parts of our body.
If you want to train stability, pay particular attention to the technique of the movement and not to the force with which you perform the movement.
When is training stability useful?
- Back complaints
- Neck complaints and headaches
- To prevent injuries
Core stability
Core stability or torso stiffness. The torso consists of back, stomach, buttocks and hip muscles. It is important to create the right stiffness with the torso. Can you create the right stiffness? Then the chance of injuries is considerably less. Your performance will also improve. You will make the training environment safer. By having a strong torso, your posture is improved and physical ailments such as back/hip pain will decrease considerably.
How do you improve mobility?
Foam roller
A foam roller reduces adhesions and improves blood circulation in the muscles. This ensures that stiff muscles will become looser and this increases your mobility. It ensures that your sports performance is improved.
Add the foam roller to your warm-up. Roll the muscles that you are going to use during the training or if you have a stiff muscle, take it with you even if you do not train it. If you make sure that all your muscles are loose, you will achieve better positions during the training itself.
Are you experiencing muscle pain?
Then use the foam roller. It ensures that the muscles can absorb more oxygen because the blood flows better. Do not expect the pain in the muscle to decrease immediately by rolling.
Stretching
By stretching, we make a muscle longer. This gives you increased joint mobility. This increased joint mobility increases strength! Do you need help with stretching exercises? We have created handy training videos that will help you get started with stretching quickly.
