What is core stability?

Do you suffer from back or neck problems? The cause can often be attributed to weakened core stability. In my view, this is the basis that should be given priority in training. It forms the foundation on which movements are built. This principle also applies when building a business; you start with a solid foundation before embarking on larger projects. This way you avoid having to constantly put out fires. The same goes for strength training. Start building a strong foundation. Here is a blog about core stability.

What is core stability?

Imagine an orchestra. Like any musician in an orchestra, they must keep their instruments playing together in a collaborative manner despite constant changes in tempo and volume. Your body must coordinate every muscle to create a purposeful and fluid movement. The muscles surrounding the spine – the front and side abdominal muscles, the back muscles, and even the larger muscles that span multiple joints, such as the lats and psoas muscles – are considered the “core” of the body. The glutes are also an important part of the core. These muscles must work together to improve the stability of the spine.

How does the 'core' work?

First, when muscles contract, they create strength and stiffness. It is the stiffness that is important for stability. Think of the spine as a flexible rod that needs to be stiffened to support the load. This is the function of the muscles. Secondly, the body functions as a linked system, making a movement requires stability. All movements of the body require proper coordination of the muscles. To move, run or squat requires spinal stiffness and core stability.

What if you have a weak core?

When the core does not meet the stability demands placed on the body during certain exercises, parts of the spine are overloaded with forces that increase the risk of injuries and adversely affect performance. Each muscle that surrounds or attaches to the spine must work together with other muscles to produce safe, efficient and, when necessary, powerful movements.

Conclusion

It is therefore essential to ensure that the central part of your body is properly trained in its function. This way you can prevent common injuries such as back and neck problems.
